Hamptons Labor Day Weekend Guide 2026
Labor Day Weekend is the East End’s grand finale. The ocean is still warm, the vineyards are heavy with fruit, the farm stands overflow with corn, tomatoes, and peaches, and every village from Westhampton to Orient hosts one last big weekend before the summer crowd thins out. If you are already booked into a Luxury Beach Getaway rental for September 5 through 7, 2026, this is the guide our team shares with guests every year: what to prioritize, what to skip, and how to see both the Hamptons and the North Fork without spending your holiday in traffic.
Everything below is drawn from local knowledge, recent Labor Day weekend schedules, and the current 2026 event calendars from the Hamptons Classic, the vineyards, and the villages. Where dates or times were not yet officially posted for 2026, we noted the typical annual timing so you can plan the shape of your weekend now and confirm the fine print closer to the holiday.
Hamptons Labor Day Weekend 2026 at a Glance
Labor Day 2026 falls on Monday, September 7, so your core weekend runs Saturday, September 5 through Monday, September 7. Most signature events on both forks actually start on the Thursday or Friday of Labor Day week and run through Sunday, with a few (the Hampton Classic, some winery hours, and the beach itself) continuing into Monday.
- Weather: Early September on the East End typically averages highs in the mid-70s to low 80s and water temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s, the warmest ocean of the season.
- Crowds: Saturday is the busiest travel day. Beach parking lots, main village streets, and the two-lane roads through Bridgehampton and Water Mill can back up between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
- What is different from July: Sunset arrives earlier (around 7:15 p.m.), the ocean is warmer, restaurants are slightly easier to book, and the North Fork wineries hit peak harvest color.
- The one thing to book now: Dinner reservations for Saturday, September 5. Everything else can be planned in the last week or two.
Signature Labor Day Weekend Events on the East End
These are the anchors. Build your Labor Day weekend around one or two of them each day, then let beach time, dinners, and vineyard visits fill in around the edges.
Hampton Classic Horse Show
The Hampton Classic in Bridgehampton is the largest outdoor hunter and jumper show in the country, and its championship rounds have wrapped on Labor Day Sunday for decades. Even if you have never been to an equestrian event, this one works: you can wander the boutique village, eat from food trucks, watch the Grand Prix ring from a grassy hill, and be home for cocktails by 5 p.m. Expect big classes and the Grand Prix on the Saturday and Sunday of the holiday weekend, with select competitions running through Monday.

Westhampton Beach Festival of the Arts
A juried outdoor arts festival takes over the Great Lawn at St. Mark’s Church on Main Street in Westhampton Beach on the Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day weekend. Painters, sculptors, jewelers, and mixed-media artists set up under white tents from mid-morning through the late afternoon. It is a lovely pairing with lunch on Main Street and an easy stop for guests staying on the western end of the Hamptons.

Meadowlark North Fork Garden Party
Meadowlark is one of the newer additions to the North Fork wine scene, and its Labor Day weekend garden party has become the unofficial kickoff to the holiday on the North Fork. Expect an early evening party under string lights, food stations from local vendors (pizza, seafood, ice cream), a DJ set, and generous pours of their estate wines. Typically held on the Friday of Labor Day weekend, roughly 4 to 8 p.m.

End of Summer Music & Fireworks at Brecknock Hall (Greenport)
For a North Fork finale, the community’s End of Summer Music & Fireworks Celebration at Brecknock Hall (1500 Brecknock Road, Greenport) brings live music followed by a full fireworks show over the grounds. The event is open to the public, family-friendly, and one of the last fireworks shows on the East End before the season closes. Confirm the exact 2026 date with the venue as it approaches.
Additional Weekend Notables
- Shinnecock Indian Powwow, Southampton. A generations-old tradition on the Shinnecock Reservation featuring traditional dance competitions, drumming, crafts, and food vendors across three days of the holiday weekend. Gates typically open mid-morning and ceremonies run into the evening.
- Northforker Wine & Food Classic at Borghese Vineyards, Cutchogue. Signature ticketed food-and-wine event, usually held on the Thursday of Labor Day week, kicking off the holiday for wine enthusiasts.
- Southold Troop 6 Car Show, Peconic. A community classic-car show at the Peconic Lane Community Center, easy to pair with a nearby winery afternoon.
Where to Eat Over Labor Day Weekend
Reservations tighten in the last week of August, so lock in your Saturday dinner first, then build the rest of your meals around it. These are the tables we send guests to year after year.
Duryea’s Lobster Deck (Montauk)
If you only book one waterfront dinner, book this one. Duryea’s picnic-style tables sit right on Fort Pond Bay, and the sunset over the water at 7 p.m. is the reason people keep coming back. Order the lobster roll, a whole steamed lobster, or the tuna tartare, and consider a reservation for the seated dining room if you want a longer, quieter meal.

Nick & Toni’s (East Hampton)
The East Hampton institution. Wood-fired pizzas, house-made pastas, a garden that supplies half the menu, and the kind of dining room where the food is genuinely excellent even when the crowd is at its most Labor Day. This is your dressed-up night out. Book early: their Saturday nights around the holidays go fast.

LUNCH (The Lobster Roll), Amagansett
The classic roadside lobster shack on Montauk Highway, open since 1965 and instantly recognizable by the enormous “LUNCH” sign on the roof. It is the platonic ideal of a Labor Day lunch: a hot buttered lobster roll, a paper cup of clam chowder, a side of onion rings, and 20 minutes on a picnic bench before you head to the beach.
- Rating: 4.5 (1,656 reviews)
- Address: 1980 Montauk Hwy, Amagansett, NY 11930

Navy Beach (Montauk)
Toes-in-the-sand casual on Fort Pond Bay. Navy Beach is the kind of place where lunch drifts into a second round of frosé and you decide to skip the afternoon plan. The setting is a west-facing beach, which makes it the best sunset seat in Montauk on a clear evening. Reservations recommended for dinner.

Claudio’s Waterfront (Greenport)
The North Fork answer to a waterfront table. Claudio’s has been on Greenport’s Main Street pier since 1870, and the current iteration leans into what it does best: an easy dockside menu, dependable seafood, and a view of the sailboats coming and going. Perfect for a long Sunday lunch after a morning of winery visits.

Beaches for Your Last Sunny Weekend
The water is at its warmest Labor Day weekend, and lifeguards remain on duty at the major beaches through the holiday. A few notes: nonresident parking fees are steep in East Hampton and Southampton villages, so plan to arrive by 9 a.m. or use a hotel or resident permit if your rental provides one.
Cooper’s Beach (Southampton)
Regularly ranked among the best beaches in the United States by “Dr. Beach,” Cooper’s is Southampton’s flagship: soft quartz sand, wide shoreline, snack bar, chair rentals, lifeguards, and a big open ocean feel. The trade-off is the parking fee (roughly $55 per car for nonresidents in season) and the crowds by 11 a.m. on Saturday.
- Rating: 4.7 (1,683 reviews)
- Address: 268 Meadow Ln, Southampton, NY 11968
- Phone: (631) 287-3450
- Local tip: Arrive before 9 a.m. or after 3 p.m. Bring cash for parking.

Main Beach (East Hampton)
Wide, deep, and consistently in the national top ten. Main Beach is Atlantic surf at its most iconic, with a classic pavilion, snack bar, and manageable walk-in. Nonresident parking is limited and pricey during the day. Consider the free East Hampton Village Circulator (ridecircuit.com) from downtown as an easy workaround.

- Local tip: Sunrise walks on Main Beach are one of the best free things you can do on Labor Day weekend.

Orient Beach State Park (Orient, North Fork)
If the South Fork feels crowded, drive east on the North Fork to Orient. This 45,000-acre state park sits at the very tip of the fork with calm bay water on one side, the Sound on the other, and long stretches of shoreline that never feel packed even on a holiday. It is genuinely family-friendly, and the price of entry is a fraction of the Hamptons village beaches.

Wine Country: A Sunday on the North Fork
Labor Day weekend hits right before the North Fork’s harvest festivals begin, and the vineyards along Route 48 and Route 25 are open, lively, and (relative to the Hamptons) still manageable. Plan for two to three tasting rooms in an afternoon, spaced out with a proper lunch in between.
Wölffer Estate Vineyard (Sagaponack)
The one Hamptons vineyard you should not miss. Wölffer is Sagaponack’s landmark producer, famous for its rosé, its Tuscan-style tasting room, and its “Summer in a Bottle” pours. Their late-summer programming, from Twilight Thursdays with cheese and charcuterie to yoga in the vines, is a Hamptons Labor Day tradition. You can read our full Wölffer recommendation here before you go.

- What to order: Estate rosé flight, a cheese board, whatever new vintage they are pouring on the lawn

Sparkling Pointe Vineyards & Winery (Southold)
Long Island’s only winery devoted exclusively to méthode champenoise sparkling wines. The tasting room is polished, the outdoor terrace overlooks the vines, and the flights are a nice change of pace from all the rosé and Chardonnay you have been drinking since Memorial Day. If you can, read our full Sparkling Pointe write-up here.

Culture, Farms & Quieter Stops
Between beach days, wine tastings, and long dinners, these are the lower-key stops we recommend to guests who want to see the East End at half speed.
Parrish Art Museum (Water Mill)
Herzog & de Meuron designed the striking single-story building, and the permanent collection focuses on artists who have lived and worked on the East End, from William Merritt Chase to Jackson Pollock. It is the perfect midday move on a hot Saturday or a gray Sunday, and it is closed Tue-Wed so plan around that.
- Rating: 4.5 (631 reviews)
- Address: 279 Montauk Hwy, Water Mill, NY 11976
- Hours: Thu-Mon 11 AM-5 PM, closed Tue-Wed
- Phone: (631) 283-2118

- Local tip: The museum shop is one of the best spots on the East End for original prints and design books.

Round Swamp Farm (East Hampton)
The most famous farm stand in the Hamptons and the one guests ask us about most. Prepared foods (their crab cakes and fried chicken are legendary), pies, produce, and a bakery counter that produces some of the best cookies on Long Island. Plan to grab breakfast, lunch, and dinner supplies all in one stop. Closed Sunday and Monday, so build it into a Saturday morning.
- Rating: 4.0 (131 reviews)
- Address: 184 County Rd 40, East Hampton, NY 11937
- Hours: Tue-Sat 7:30 AM-6 PM (closed Sun and Mon)

- Website: roundswampfarm.com
- What to order: Crab cakes, buttermilk fried chicken, blueberry pie, a loaf of the country bread
- View on Google Maps

Briermere Farms (Riverhead)
If you drive out via the North Fork or spend a day in wine country, the detour to Briermere is worth it for one thing: the pies. Blueberry cream, peach raspberry, apple crumb, chocolate cream. Expect a line on Labor Day Sunday, but the line moves fast, and one pie makes an excellent dessert back at the rental with a bottle of that afternoon’s rosé.
- Rating: 4.7 (1,559 reviews)
- Address: 4414 Sound Ave, Riverhead, NY 11901

- What to order: Whatever berry cream pie is in season, plus a jar of jam

Montauk Point Lighthouse
The eastern tip. If you have never been out, Labor Day is a beautiful weekend for the drive: the pull-off at Camp Hero, the walk along the bluffs, and the climb to the top of the 1796 lighthouse for a view that stretches from Block Island to the Hamptons. Free walking around the grounds; the museum and lighthouse tower have a modest admission.

Traffic, Timing & Practical Tips
Labor Day weekend on the East End is a logistics test as much as a vacation. A few things we tell every guest.
- The Friday before Labor Day is the worst drive of the summer. Route 27 backs up from Manorville to Southampton starting around 2 p.m. If you can leave the city by 10 a.m. Friday, or wait until Saturday morning, do it.
- Sunday afternoon is nearly as bad in the other direction. Plan your westbound drive for very early Sunday morning or, better, mid-morning Monday.
- Hampton Jitney and LIRR are viable alternatives. The Hampton Jitney runs frequent Friday and Sunday express service to every village on the South Fork. The LIRR’s Cannonball to Montauk on Friday and returning Sunday sells out fast; book in advance.
- North Fork alternatives. The North Ferry from Greenport to Shelter Island and the South Ferry from Shelter Island to Sag Harbor let you cross between the forks without driving all the way back through Riverhead.
- Cash for parking. Cooper’s Beach, Sagg Main, and most Village of East Hampton beaches charge nonresidents daily. Have $50 in cash for parking on your beach days.
- Reservations on the Thursday before are almost as tight as Saturday. Locals have known this for years. Book Thursday dinners early too.
For a broader look at planning a longer stay, we keep an updated Hamptons & North Fork travel guide and a live East End events calendar that we refresh year-round.
The Best Weekend of the Summer to Be Here
Labor Day is the East End’s love letter to itself. The people who live here year-round quietly agree that this is the best weekend of the summer: warm water, long light, harvest wine, no lines yet at Briermere. Whether you plan to spend the whole three days at the beach, stretch across both forks with a rented car and a good playlist, or anchor everything around the Hampton Classic and dinner at Nick & Toni’s, the goal is the same. Do less. Eat well. Watch the sun set over the water.
If you are still deciding where to stay, browse our Hamptons and North Fork collections, or reach out to the team and we will help you land the right home for Labor Day 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Labor Day weekend busy in the Hamptons?
Yes, Labor Day weekend is one of the three busiest weekends of the East End summer, alongside July 4 and the weekend before it. Expect heavy traffic on Route 27 on the Friday before and Sunday afternoon, packed village restaurants, and full beach parking lots by late morning. That said, it is also one of the most beautiful weekends of the year: the ocean is warm, the light is soft, and there is a genuine celebratory feeling in every village.
What events happen in the Hamptons over Labor Day Weekend 2026?
The core Labor Day 2026 events on the East End include the Hampton Classic Horse Show in Bridgehampton (competitions Saturday through Monday), the Shinnecock Indian Powwow in Southampton (Friday through Sunday), the Westhampton Beach Festival of the Arts on the Great Lawn (Saturday and Sunday), the Meadowlark Garden Party in Cutchogue (Friday evening), and the End of Summer Music & Fireworks Celebration at Brecknock Hall in Greenport. Confirm exact 2026 dates and times with each organizer as the holiday approaches.
How do I get to the Hamptons without driving?
The Hampton Jitney runs express buses from Manhattan to every village on the South Fork, including additional Friday afternoon and Sunday evening service around Labor Day. The Long Island Rail Road runs frequent trains, and its seasonal “Cannonball” express to Montauk on Friday afternoons is the fastest rail option. From Manhattan, both options save you the worst of Route 27 traffic on the busiest travel days.
Is Labor Day weekend a good time to visit the North Fork?
Yes. The North Fork is arguably at its best over Labor Day weekend. The vineyards are approaching harvest, the tasting rooms host special events (the Northforker Wine & Food Classic and Meadowlark Garden Party both fall on Labor Day week), the farm stands are heavy with peaches and corn, and traffic is meaningfully lighter than on the South Fork. If you have never spent a Labor Day up here, this is the year to try.
Is the water still warm enough to swim over Labor Day?
Yes. Early September is when Atlantic Ocean water temperatures peak on the East End, usually in the upper 60s to low 70s Fahrenheit. Bay beaches on the North Fork and inside Peconic Bay run a few degrees warmer. Lifeguards are still on duty at all major beaches through Labor Day.
When should I book a Hamptons rental for Labor Day 2026?
Ideally by early July. Peak inventory across the South Fork and North Fork gets picked up first for July and August, with Labor Day rentals often filling in a second wave through mid-August. By late August, availability is limited to a handful of last-minute openings. If you are looking now, browse our Hot Deals Collection first and reach out to our team for anything not listed publicly.
