Traveling with Pets on the North Fork
A house that holds everyone
Fenced grounds, open rooms, a yard that spills toward the water. The North Fork’s best properties have always had a generosity to them, of space, of light, of welcome.
The memories are already waiting.
A week on the North Fork, the right house, the whole family together. All that is left is to arrive.
The beach at golden hour, leash in hand
The North Fork shoreline at the end of the day, warm light, cool sand, a dog running the waterline. There is nowhere else any of you need to be.
Most properties include fenced yards or ample outdoor space, and dog-friendly patios at local farms and tasting rooms are never far away.
Frequently Asked Questions
Many beaches on the North Fork allow leashed dogs, particularly outside of peak summer hours. Rules vary by town and season. Soundside beaches in Wading River and Baiting Hollow tend to be more relaxed, while village beaches near Greenport may have stricter guidelines in July and August. We recommend confirming local rules before your stay.
Late May through June and September through October are ideal. The weather is still warm, the beaches are less crowded, and dogs can move more freely. Summer stays are absolutely doable, just plan for early morning and evening walks during the hottest days.
Wading River and Baiting Hollow offer the most open, rural feel with easy beach and trail access, a great base if long daily walks are a priority. Cutchogue, Peconic, and Southold put you near vineyards with dog-friendly outdoor spaces and Greenport’s walkable waterfront. Orient and East Marion are the most peaceful, with wide-open land and some of the most scenic waterfront settings on the Fork, and far fewer crowds for you and your dog to navigate.
Each home in this collection has been confirmed to accept at least one pet. Policies vary by property. Some welcome multiple dogs, others have size or breed restrictions. Pet fees and any specific house rules are listed clearly in each rental before you book.
