Southold Vacation Rentals
Sitting at the heart of the North Fork, Southold is the town that defines the region, historically, geographically, and in every way that matters to a traveler looking for something real. One of the oldest English settlements in New York State, it carries that history lightly, pairing centuries-old farmland and village charm with a working waterfront, a thriving wine trail, and some of the most beautiful bay and sound shores on Long Island.
Southold is where the North Fork comes into full focus. The village itself is quiet and walkable, with an easy authenticity that the Hamptons long ago traded away. But step outside it in any direction and you find the water, the farms, the vineyards, and the kind of local life that makes a vacation feel like more than a change of scenery. Whether you are arriving for a long weekend or settling in for a full week, a Southold vacation rental puts you exactly where you want to be.
What Guests Are Saying About Their Southold Vacation Rental
Sunset Perch: Heated Pool, Rooftop Deck, Walk to Beach
We had a wonderful couple of weeks here! The house was gorgeous, very well equipped (the kitchen in particular – a chef’s dream!), and in a perfect location with easy access to Greenport. We were traveling with a baby and were provided a highchair and travel crib. Luxury Beach Getaways was very responsive to all of our questions and helped us arrange for housekeeping and anything else we needed. Will definitely come again!
Peconic Sound Beach Cottage | Walk to Sound
This was a great spot for our family of four. The house is well-appointed and an easy walk to the beach. Our host provided us with beach chairs and towels, making things easier for us. The host was very responsive to questions and concerns. I would highly recommend this property for your next beach vacation.
Peconic Sound Beach Cottage | Walk to Sound
My family had a lovely stay at the Peconic sound beach home. The location was amazing, close to a beautiful beach down the block, the home was clean and well appointed-the perfect beach house. Communication was excellent and we will definitely stay again!
Peconic Sound Beach Cottage | Walk to Sound
The house was immaculate, well appointed and overall very comfortable. We loved that we could easily walk to the local beach on LI Sound (house is in the town of Peconic, on LI Sound, not Peconic Bay). While the kitchen was set up to make cooking easy, we took advantage of the great nearby restaurants and wonderful wineries. We had a great stay!
Peconic Sound Beach Cottage | Walk to Sound
Can’t beat the location of the house. Less than a minute walk to the beautiful beach. House is clean and comfortable. Debbie communicated with us and make sure we had a great stay. Highly recommend.
Peconic Sound Beach Cottage | Walk to Sound
We had a wonderful week at the house! It comfortably fit five of us. We especially loved how close it was to the beach and that all of the wineries, towns, and farm stands were usually on average a five to ten minute drive. Having central air conditioning throughout the house was also a great feature.
Make the Most of Southold
One of the North Fork’s most iconic landmarks sits right in Southold, perched above the Long Island Sound at the end of a quiet road through farmland. The bluff at Horton Point offers sweeping views of the Connecticut shoreline across the water, and the lighthouse grounds are open for exploration on weekends throughout the season. It is the kind of place that earns its reputation. Arrive for the view and stay longer than you planned.
Southold is bordered by both Peconic Bay to the south and the Long Island Sound to the north, which means the water is never more than a few minutes away in any direction. Town Beach and Founders Landing offer easy bay access for swimming, kayaking, and paddleboarding, while the Sound side draws anglers and those who simply want a quieter stretch of shore. After a day on the water, your Luxury Beach Getaway home is the right place to rinse off and watch the light change over the bay.
Southold sits squarely in the center of the North Fork wine trail, with acclaimed vineyards in every direction. Shinn Estate, Corey Creek, and Bedell Cellars are just minutes away, and the broader trail stretches from Mattituck to Greenport with dozens of tasting rooms in between. Spend a leisurely afternoon working through a few favorites, or find a vineyard lawn worth settling into for the afternoon. Either way, a bottle or two finds its way back to your Luxury Beach Getaway home for the evening.
Greenport is just a short drive east and delivers everything a harbor town should, with waterfront dining, independent shops, a carousel, and ferry access to Shelter Island. Cutchogue is equally worth a visit for its historic village green and concentration of excellent wine tasting rooms. Both make for easy and rewarding day trips, with your Luxury Beach Getaway home in Southold always a comfortable place to return to at the end of the day.
Frequently Asked Questions About Southold Vacation Rentals
Southold is both a town and a village on the North Fork of Long Island. The town encompasses several surrounding hamlets, while the village itself sits centrally along the North Fork’s main corridor, roughly halfway between the wine country of Mattituck and the harbor town of Greenport.
By car, expect roughly two to two and a half hours from Midtown Manhattan, depending on traffic. The Long Island Rail Road runs direct service to Southold with stops in both the village and nearby Greenport, making a car-free weekend genuinely workable.
Absolutely. The calm bay beaches, accessible waterfront, and the village’s easy pace make Southold one of the North Fork’s most family-friendly destinations. Our homes here are spacious, well-equipped, and chosen for the kind of relaxed stay that families come back to season after season.
Walk out to Horton Point in the morning for the views, pick up lunch at one of the spots along Main Road, spend the afternoon on the bay at Town Beach or Founders Landing, and end the day with a tasting at one of the nearby vineyards before heading back to your Luxury Beach Getaway home for the evening. That covers most of what makes Southold worth the trip and leaves plenty for the rest of your stay.
Yes. Southold has more dining options than most North Fork hamlets, with a mix of casual spots and destination-worthy meals right in or around the village. Greenport, just minutes further east, rounds out the options considerably and is worth the short drive for waterfront dinners and a lively harbor scene.
